We believe that effective communication between our office and our patients is crucial to the success of any dental procedure. We meet with our patients in advance of dental implant surgery to make sure we’re all on the same page. We will also provide you with extensive written instructions which help you to prepare for every step of the implant process.
It generally requires between 3 and 6 months to complete the dental implant process. Sometimes it takes a little bit longer if Dr. Kuzmin determines that supplemental procedures will help to prepare the surgical site and optimize your prospects for success.
We occasionally need to strengthen the bone mass in a patient’s jawbone to provide the implant with a more stable environment. There are also cases where we perform gum grafts and other treatments for gum disease prior to beginning dental implant surgery.
The dental implant process will progress in the following order:
It’s import to arrange for someone to pick you up from the hospital after your dental implant surgery. You will also want to set aside at least a week to allow your body time to recover. You can expect some bleeding and swelling around the recovery site, which should subside after about 72 hours. Place gauze in your mouth to treat the bleeding.
There will also be some pain and swelling for the first 2 to 3 days. Make sure to take all medications as prescribed. You can also remedy these symptoms with an icepack, but you should stop using it after three days as it will no longer be effective at this point.
